About
We help you keep a home you actually want to come home to.
Dwell Ritual is an independent home-living magazine about the small, repeatable rituals — brewing coffee, making the bed, resetting the kitchen counter — that turn a house into a home, and the everyday goods that make those rituals easier.
Why we started
Dwell Ritual began with a simple frustration: most home-goods writing is either a glossy catalog that never mentions a price, or a listicle that recommends everything and explains nothing. We wanted something in between — honest, scenario-based advice from people who actually use these things every day, written for readers who'd rather buy one good item than five mediocre ones.
What we cover
We focus on the everyday essentials that touch your daily routine: kitchen and dining tools, cleaning and laundry gear, organization and storage, bedding and bath, decor and lighting, and outdoor living. For every category we ask the same questions: What problem does this solve? Who is it actually for? And what's the honest tradeoff at each price point?
How we choose what we recommend
- We start with the scenario. A product only earns a mention if we can describe the real moment it solves — a cramped kitchen, a shedding dog, a closet that ate your winter coat.
- We compare against the field. We look at published specifications, materials, warranties, and how a product stacks up against direct alternatives before we form a view.
- We say what's not great. Every recommendation comes with a tradeoff. If a product is heavy, loud, or overkill for small spaces, we'll tell you.
- We avoid invented numbers. We don't publish star ratings or review scores we can't stand behind. We use plain-language verdicts and "best for" labels instead.
How we make money
Dwell Ritual is reader-supported. When you buy through certain links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission at no additional cost to you. Those commissions keep the lights on and let us research categories that take weeks, not minutes. They never change what we recommend — our editorial picks are made first, and affiliate relationships are added after. You can read the full details in our affiliate disclosure.
Our editorial principles
- Independence first. No brand pays to be included in a guide, and we don't accept payment for reviews.
- Transparency about what we know. We distinguish between verified specifications and editorial opinion, and we date our research.
- Useful over exhaustive. We'd rather explain three genuinely different options than list twenty that blur together.
- Updated, not abandoned. We revisit guides as products change, get discontinued, or get replaced by something meaningfully better.
Who's behind it
Dwell Ritual is run by a small editorial team of home obsessives — renters and homeowners, cooks and cleaners, city apartment dwellers and suburban gardeners — who have collectively furnished, cleaned, and reorganized more rooms than we'd care to count. We write about what we live with.
